What is KIIP ? Korea Immigration and Integration Program

Program Information

The Korea Immigration and Integration Program helps immigrants become a part of our society, by providing them with training and education courses of compulsory knowledge that is needed to adapt to Korean society. When immigrants complete courses at centers and institutes that the Ministry of Justice has designated, the program provides benefits to the immigrants regarding sojourn permit, granting nationality, permanent resident permit and etc.

 

※ Curriculum : ① Korean Language ② Understanding Korean Society
※ Participants
○ Foreigners who reside in Korea, like marriage-based immigrants, compatriots, foreign workers, international students, refugees, professionals, who have unexpired certificates of alien registration or certificate of address, and naturalized Koreans who have acquired the Korean nationality 3 years ago or less.

※ Participation Benefits

○ Benefits when applying for naturalization

– Exemption from written nationality acquisition exam
– Exemption from nationality acquisition interview
– Shortened waiting time for nationality screening
○ Benefits
– When professional manpower change status of sojourn(F2) according to grades, points are added(maximum 25grades)
– When applying for permanent residence permit(F31), exemption from confirmation of Korean language ability
– When spouse of Korean citizen(F6) applies for permanent residence permit(F52), exemption from confirmation of

Korean language ability
– When foreign underage children of Korean citizen(F22) applies for permanent residence permit(F53), exemption from

confirmation of Korean language ability
– When foreigners with non-professional employment(E9), crewman(E10), working visit(H2) visa apply to change their

status of particular activity(E7), exemption from confirmation of Korean language ability
– When long stay foreigners(D1, D5~D9, F1, F3, E1~E5, E7 etc) apply to change their status of sojourn(F2), exemption

from Korean language ability
– When general naturalization subject obtains permanent residence permit(F-5), exemption from Korean language ability

(Scheduled to be applied since September 1st, 2013)
○ Obtain certificates per assessment

– After completing the Korean language course and if you pass the midterm evaluation, you can obtain the certificate

of the Test of Proficiency in Korean of the Society Integration Program(KIIP-KLT)

– After completing all the courses and if you pass the general evaluation, you can obtain the certificate of KINAT.
※ Mandatory Hours : Per person, minimum 50 hours ~ maximum 465 hours
○ ‘Korean Language’ course, maximum 415 hours + ‘Understanding Korean Society’ course maximum 415 hours.
○ According to Korean language levels, mandatory hours can differ.
